Explanation of Donor Advised Funds
Insight Santa Cruz directs donors to several services that can be used when donating. One of the service providers is PayPal Giving. PayPal Giving is a DONOR-ADVISED FUND, or DAF. ISC had directed donors to another DAF in the past, Network for Good.
A DAF is a flexible and cost-efficient way to give to your favorite charities. Donations to a DAF qualify as charitable tax deductions. Donors specify the charitable organization that will receive a grant from the original donation to the DAF.
ISC benefits from using PayPal Giving since they charge no service fees and absorb all credit card fees which can amount to 2.2% or much more.
When either PayPal Giving or Network for Good is selected by an ISC donor, the donor is donating to the DAF and at the same time instructing the DAF to grant the donation amount to ISC. The DAF handles the donation transaction and provides a tax-deductible receipt to the donor. The DAF will then transfer the donation amount, less any fees in the case of Network for Good, to ISC within 30 days. ISC will send a thank you to the donor however ISC will not include the DAF donation amount in its tax-deductible receipt to the donor.
There are many Donor Advised Funds available to individuals providing additional conveniences and tax-efficient techniques. Please check with your investment or tax advisor for details.
