    Guiding Teacher

    JD Doyle is the Guiding Teacher at Insight Santa Cruz and a graduate of Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s 4-year Teacher Training, the Community Dharma Leader training, and the Dedicated Practitioner Program. In 1995, JD began studying and practicing Buddhism at the Insight Meditation Society and at Spirit Rock and continued with extensive retreat practice in Thailand and Burma in the Theravadan lineage. JD was a Core Teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, CA for five years, and teaches at meditation centers across the US. For over twenty-three years, they worked as a public-school teacher. JD holds a BS in Environmental Studies from Cornell University, a bilingual multicultural teaching certificate from UC Santa Cruz, and a Masters in Language and Literacy and Sociocultural Studies from the University of New Mexico. JD identifies as gender non-conforming. They are committed to celebrating diversity, addressing racial injustice, expanding concepts of gender, and honoring the sacredness of the Earth.

    Yasmina Porter
    Community Facilitator

    Yasmina Porter has been practicing mindfulness meditation since 2002 at which time she was certified at Dominican Hospital to teach Mindfulness-based Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga. In 2013, after a decade of practice and annual residential retreats with Bob Stahl, Jon Kabot-Zinn, and Mary Grace Orr, Yasmina was authorized to teach Mindfulness-based stress reduction through UMass Memorial Health Care Center for Mindfulness. She has taught MBSR in the Academy for College Excellence. Yasmina formed a People of Color Sitting Group at Insight Santa Cruz in 2017.

Meditation and Dance: A Gathering for the Community

All are welcome to join us for meditation, socializing, sharing, and dancing at this ISC community gathering held at the African Roots Social Club located in the Tannery. We will gather outdoors to re-connect with old friends and to meet new ones. Meeting each other in person, we connect, are mindful and nourish ourselves and our community.

This event will include: meditation, discussion, snacks, and a finish with a dance party. You are welcome to join for part or all of this event.

Onsite Attendance Instructions:

Onsite attendees are required to be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines but you are no longer required to submit the vaccination record to ISC or bring proof to the center. Please bring an N95/KN95 mask. Admittance is first come first served.
