    Carol has been a student of the dharma at Insight Santa Cruz since 2009, following training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. She has attended many retreats and dharma programs since then, most recently completing training as a Community Dharma Facilitator in 2019. She served on the board from 2012-2015 and has been the volunteer coordinator since 2013. “For me, it is always about bringing mindful awareness with me up off the cushion and out into all the moments of my daily life.” Since 2018 she has enjoyed sharing the responsibility of facilitating the New To Practice group and several half daylongs.

    Meg Corman (she/her) has been a student of meditation since 2005 and has studied in Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist traditions. In 2019 she completed the Insight Santa Cruz Community Dhamma Facilitator training program with Bob Stahl and since then has taught a variety of half-day programs and co-led a 16-week Walking the Dhamma Path Core Teachings class. Meg served on the ISC Board from 2018-2021. She is also a certified Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher and has taught MBSR and mindfulness classes since 2012 locally and in the South Bay.

Introduction to the Teachings of the Buddha: The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path – Unit 3

This offering is a “Walking the Dhamma Path” class series, taught in three units over the course of five months that will explore foundational teachings of the Buddha. The class will deepen individuals understanding of Buddhist practice and apply these teachings to their life. 

UNIT 3 – The Divine Abodes (Brahma Viharas)
This unit has four classes. We will cover the Buddha’s teaching on the Brahma Viharas: Lovingkindness, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity.

Nov. 8 (Online Only) – The Brahma Viharas: Metta – Kevin Newhouse
Nov. 15 – The Brahma Viharas: Karuna – Susan Ezequelle
Nov. 22 – The Brahma Viharas: Mudita – Kim Allen
Nov. 29 – The Brahma Viharas: Upekkha

Saturday Dec 3, 9 am – noon
Half-day retreat – more time to integrate the topic through meditation, small group discussion, and a dharmette relating our practice to current events.

Each class is 90 minutes and will include Silent meditation, a Dharma talk and Q & A/discussion. At the completion of each unit a half-day retreat will be held to help participants better integrate the teachings. 

Registration will be strongly encouraged, and it will be okay to join any class on a drop-in basis. Please register for each unit by sending an email to Carol.
