Teacher or Dharma Leader
- Ann B. Peruzzi
Ann B. Peruzzi, PhD (she/her), has been in recovery from alcohol addiction for 33 years, and a student of the relationship between dharma and recovery since 2006 after reading Kevin Griffin’s memoir “One Breath At A Time”. Ann became a Vipassana/insight meditation practitioner and student of Theravada Buddhist teachings in the few years after that first introduction to mindfulness practice, sitting multiple silent retreats since then. In 2019, she completed the mindfulness meditation teacher training (MMTCP) with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach and has taught at a residential drug and alcohol program, as well as in community settings since. As a clinical psychologist specializing in addiction, she was trained in MBSR (with Bob Stahl) and taught mindfulness based relapse prevention to health professionals and clients. She is a founding member of the Buddhist Recovery Network. As a dedicated qigong practitioner and instructor, Ann continually studies how meditative movement enhances joy in recovery and leads to deeper freedom, and peace. Ann is in the current cohort of the advanced practitioner program (LEAP) at Spirit Rock. She is a regular member in Kevin Griffin’s dharma and recovery sangha and fills in for him from time to time.
Buddhism and Addiction Recovery – 3rd Tuesday
The Buddhism and Addiction Recovery dhamma friends gathering provides a time for people who are in recovery from addiction to be together in support of one another. We will be exploring the ways in which recovery is informed and enhanced by a Buddhist perspective, including the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eight-Fold Path, the Four Foundations of Mindfulness and other key aspects of the path. Our format will include meditation, a talk related to a topic of recovery through a Buddhist lens, discussion and social time. The group is open to people in recovery from addiction, including drugs and alcohol, food, gambling, sex, technology, and other process addictions, as well as issues of codependency. One need not be a part of recovery group, such as 12-step, Recovery Dharma, Refuge Recovery, 8-Step Recovery. Those contemplating a path to recovery are also welcome.
