- Bob StahlTeacher
Bob Stahl, PhD, formerly lived in a Buddhist monastery for eight and a half years and later founded eight Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs in medical centers in the SF Bay Area. He is on faculty at the Brown University Mindfulness Center and formerly at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Bob teaches MBSR Teacher Trainings and Insight Meditation retreats worldwide and is the former guiding teacher at Insight Santa Cruz and a visiting teacher at Spirit Rock and Insight Meditation Society. He is co-author of five books: A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook (1st & 2nd editions), Living With Your Heart Wide Open, Calming the Rush of Panic, A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety, and MBSR Everyday.
- Kara HaneyCommunity Teacher
Kara has been practicing meditation and studying Buddhism since 1993 and has been leading Vipassana meditation since 1996. Kara practices the fifth precept of full renunciation from intoxicants and has twenty-five years sober. In 2013 she assisted in starting Buddhist recovery groups in Santa Cruz and has been a foundational member and mentor for the community. Kara attends multiple silent Vipassana retreats each year, has been empowered to teach by Bob Stahl, trained to facilitate Mindfulness and Buddhist meditation through the former Against the Stream Meditation Society, and is currently in the Dharmacharya teacher training with Venerable Pannavati. Kara teaches weekly meditation groups and daylong retreats at Insight Santa Cruz. She enjoys tea, cemeteries, new wave, jigsaw puzzles, and is completing a master’s degree in Social Work. Kara lives in downtown Santa Cruz.

32 Parts of the Body Meditation: Discovering Freedom within the Body – Wednesdays
This Online class is suitable for both beginning and experienced mediators.
Please join us for this 8-week “32 Parts of the Body” meditation class that has rarely been taught in the West. This practice will cultivate deeper insight into the true nature of the body and most importantly to help see through the identifications, conditionings, beliefs, and narratives – the erroneous view of self. It has also been used for healing illness. Various methods will be taught to strengthen mindfulness of the body and to explore the mind/body connection.
Each class will consist of silent and guided meditation, chanting of the body parts and small and large group discussion. These teachings and practices will help develop greater clarity, wisdom, and compassion; and foster the depth of practice.
