What Really Matters – Practicing with Impermanence

In our culture, talking about the inevitability of aging, illness, and death are often seem as grim and dark. Yet awareness of these realities can, in many ways, add a tremendous depth and clarity to our lives.  Stephen Levine, one of the pioneers in this focus and author of  A Year to Live, describes what he sees as a process of healing and renewal, focusing our attention more fully and joyfully, living with the knowledge that  every moment matters.

In this dharma friends group we will explore how this awareness of the natural limits to our lives can help us wake up and live fully, with more of the wisdom and compassion described in the dharma. In a small group setting we will explore  the mysteries of our mortality using small group practice, reading, and shared reflection to create a climate of safety and support .

Event Location: As a dharma friends group, we will meet in members’ homes or other off-site locations.

Event Date: The group will begin in August and run for 6 months, specific dates to be determined in consultation with the group

Event Time: Late afternoon / early evening, specifics to be determined with group.

Event Cost: dana

How to Register: Contact Leslie Tremaine at email hidden; JavaScript is required.

The group will be limited to 10-12 people

The Creative Path

Visual arts, music and dance, and writing, as well as the many expressions of creativity in our daily lives can be important parts of our spiritual path, helping us develop greater mindfulness, wisdom and compassion. This spiritual friends group is being established to allow us a shared chance to explore this rich convergence of creativity and insight practice in the company of other sangha members. Get-togethers will be on a monthly basis and are intended to be primarily experiential and “co-created” based on the interests of members.

Event Date: Once a month

Event Time: Time / day to be determined based on participant availability

Event Cost: dana

How to Register: No registration required

Please contact Leslie Tremaine (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for more info and for meeting location

Transforming the Judgmental Mind

This group has been formed in follow up to a weekend non residential retreat by Donald Rothberg on how working skillfully to transform the judgmental mind can be a “royal road of transformation” for us.

We are meeting monthly to continue the work begun that weekend, with input and support from Donald. We will be focusing on key practice areas highlighted in his rich teachings: mindfulness, metta , forgiveness, compassion, body practices and right speech. Supportive readings and connections with dharma buddies will help to enrich the work we do together in our monthly get togethers.

This group’s final meeting will be Thursday June 4, 2015

Event Date: first Thursdays of the month

Event Time: 5:30-7 pm

Please contact Leslie Tremaine (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for more info and for meeting locations.
