Transforming the Judgmental Mind

This group has been formed in follow up to a weekend non residential retreat by Donald Rothberg on how working skillfully to transform the judgmental mind can be a “royal road of transformation” for us.

We are meeting monthly to continue the work begun that weekend, with input and support from Donald. We will be focusing on key practice areas highlighted in his rich teachings: mindfulness, metta , forgiveness, compassion, body practices and right speech. Supportive readings and connections with dharma buddies will help to enrich the work we do together in our monthly get togethers.

Event Date: first Thursdays of the month

Event Time: 5:30-7 pm

Please contact Leslie Tremaine (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for more info and for meeting locations.

Exploring the Pali Canon

The purpose of this group is to explore the history, scope, and selected contents of the Pali Canon (The Tipitaka, or three baskets).

Many of us have heard references to particular suttas, or the Dhammapada, or the Abhidamma, but where do we find these texts and how do they differ in content, presentation, and organization? What collections do they come from? What other collections are there?

Once we’ve familiarized ourselves with the structure of the Pali Canon, we will select particular readings from various collections and discuss them with the help of those in the group who’ve had some sutta study experience and occasionally visiting teachers or senior students.

Please contact Alyson (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for day, time and location.

Aging with Wisdom

Aging with Wisdom: Join us in exploring together how our experiences with aging can become a rich part of our life path. The group will be a chance to share both the supports of our practice as well as readings and helpful resource materials. We will meet monthly from 4-5:30pm on the second Monday of the month, beginning Monday, September 8, at the home of Linda Neher.

Please contact Leslie Tremaine (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for directions or to ask any questions.

Caring for the Sangha consists of Insight Santa Cruz members who provide support to our community. We want to welcome new members as well as supporting those going through a health or other life challenge. Our volunteers consider service a way of bringing practice from the cushion to caring and exploring the sacred mystery of giving and receiving.

This group will meet bi-monthly in Santa Cruz or as needed. There will be a 30-minute meditation followed by a discussion on Caring for our Sangha at Insight Santa Cruz. Topics will include welcoming people new to our center, supporting others with health or or life challenges, and how service supports/impacts our own practice.

This group is peer-led. Contact Linda Neher at email hidden; JavaScript is requiredor (831) 426-1496.
