New To Practice – Concentration and Awareness: Partners in Meditation Practice

Many of us bring ideas to class that may not serve us well.  We may believe that concentration demands great effort with a narrow, specific focus, unwavering in its steadiness. We may not know that it’s no different the concentration when we’re absorbed in activity or projects we love, find easy, or pleasant. We might not know that insights can arise early in practice, and that a relaxed awareness is what allows both concentration and insight to emerge.
